Veneers and metal-free ceramics
Veneers are thin white plates that stick to tooth enamel. They are made of strong ceramics by pressing or milling. With the help of veneers, you can restore the color and improve the shape of the teeth.
Very often veneers are used simultaneously with metal-free crowns and overlays for chewing teeth.
IN WHICH CASES DO WE INSTALL VENEERS?
The range of indications for the installation of veneers is quite wide: discolored teeth, gaps between teeth, small or uneven teeth. Veneers are also installed in complex rehabilitations, during which we completely restore the dentition.
Then, depending on the situation, veneers or overlays are installed on the teeth. In case of the absence of own teeth – we use implants first, then crowns.
VENEER, OVERLAY, OR CROWN?
Often people think that with the help of veneers you can restore any teeth. This is not quite true. First of all, veneers are well suited in cases when the teeth are still vital – (without filled root canals).
The fact is that the veneer is fixed to the tooth adhesively (glued), and you can reliably glue the veneer only to the enamel and dentin of vital teeth. The adhesion force, in this case, will be maximum, and the veneer will not come off even after many years.
In the case when the teeth are already depulped (non-vital), we do not install veneers. All because such tooth tissue is of insufficient quality for gluing veneers.
If the teeth have massive fillings (especially on the side parts) – veneers are not the best choice. In such cases, metal-free crowns are better, as they completely cover the tooth and protect it from splitting and further deterioration during masticatory loads.
Overlays on posterior teeth are used when you want to raise or change the bite. The technology is similar to the installation of veneers, but the difference is that they are glued on top of the posterior teeth.
At Dent Master, we will help you choose the best option for restoring your teeth.
